In Missouri, based on the exit poll and our analysis of the vote in so far, ABC News projects that in the Senate race, Democrat Claire McCaskill will win over Republican Todd Akin.

Akin faced calls to resign from the race following his now infamous "legitimate rape" comment, but declined to bow out. McCaskill and other Democrats slammed him for being out of touch with women and some within his own party urged him to quit the race.

Many Republicans felt an Akin victory might be one of the GOP's best chances to win back control of the Senate.
