Fusion produces a range of content with funding and support from outside parties. To be as transparent as possible with our audience, we have created a set of guidelines that govern the categories of sponsorship that you will find on Fusion’s digital platforms.

Made Possible By: Foundation/Nonprofit Grants for Editorial Content

On a case-by-case basis, and with approval given by senior editorial management in consultation with the Director of News Practices, Fusion will accept funding, goods, or services from nonprofit organizations and foundations to support the production of editorially independent content. These sponsor organizations can neither approve nor reject the content being produced. The content will be written or produced according to the same standards that apply to all Fusion journalism.

Supported By: Corporate/Brand Funding for Editorial Content

On a case-by-case basis, and with approval given by senior editorial management in consultation with the Director of News Practices, Fusion will accept funding, goods, or services from corporations/brands to sponsor certain content. “Supported by” describes editorially independent content with which a corporation has paid to associate itself.

While these sponsors can suggest topics to cover, Fusion’s editorial staff has no obligation to accept or follow those suggestions. Furthermore, these supported pieces of content or sections are not shown to sponsors for approval. The content will be written or produced in accordance with Fusion’s standards for all of its journalism.

Presented By: Branded Content Produced by Fusion Lightworks

This category represents content produced by Fusion’s in-house creative team, Fusion Lightworks, in collaboration with a brand partner, or produced by a partner. The brand or partner provides funding, goods, or services and, in exchange, has input into the content. Neither Fusion’s editorial staff nor current editorial contributors have a role in its preparation or production.

Branded content will be reviewed and approved by an acceptability committee of Fusion Lightworks that does not include Fusion’s editorial employees. Fusion will have final approval over the published content and can refuse publication of any branded content that, in its own judgment, would undermine the intellectual integrity, authority, and character of our organization.
