Chelsea Clinton’s latest passion isn’t what you might expect.

“I am obsessed with diarrhea,” Clinton said in an interview with Fusion’s Alicia Menendez.

The former first daughter isn’t joking. She said she is focusing her humanitarian work on providing clean water and medical treatment to prevent diseases like diarrhea, tuberculosis and pneumonia in developing nations.

“I think it's completely unacceptable that still across the world more than 750,000 children die every year due to severe dehydration due to diarrhea,” she said. “I just think that's unconscionable.”

Clinton spoke to Menendez last weekend at the Clinton Global Initiative University gathering in Tempe, Arizona. She said the foundation her father created can help make medicines cheaper to buy. In Nigeria, she said, the foundation has helped cut the price of a treatment from $8 to 50 cents per child.

“A lot more mothers can access something that can not only sort of save their children's lives today but help save their kids' lives into the future,” Clinton said.
