Even transgender celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner shouldn’t be exempt from following North Carolina's notorious "bathroom bill" while visiting the state, Gov. Pat McCrory insisted on Tuesday night.
“If she is using the shower facility at UNC Chapel Hill after running around the track, she’s going to use the men’s shower,” McCrory said in a gubernatorial debate, after the moderator asked which restroom Jenner, a trans woman, should use.
McCrory’s rhetorical gymnastics – referring to Jenner as a woman while arguing that the former Olympian should be legally required to shower with men – emphasized how bizarre the bathroom bill defenders’ arguments have gotten.
