The Dutch keep the goals coming

The Netherlands put up another three goals on the board in Porto Alegre but this wasn’t easy. The Socceroos showed great spirit and tenacity and even led for a short time. Tim Cahill, in likely his last World Cup match, scored on a spectacular volley that was one of the best goals so far in the tournament. Enjoy the GIFs.

foul

Tim Cahill is a magnificent jumper. He also enjoys kicking ankles.

Arjen Robben is grabbed, but doesn’t go down. I REPEAT: HE DOESN’T GO DOWN!!!!! HE PLAYS ON!!!! He dribbles into the box and cooly finishes. All too easy.

Fresh off the Dutch goal, with every reason to dismay, Cahill strikes a gorgeous left-footed volley high into the Oranje’s net. Wow, 1-1.

Australia continues to threaten. I haven’t checked, but Australia should be trending on Twitter. And as a fashion. It’s been 20+ minutes of this now.

Now that Tim Cahill is out for the Spain match, close your eyes…think of Chariots of Fire…open your eyes.

attempt

Remember back when it was 1-1? Seems like a lifetime ago, right? Yeah, it’s actually just been a few minutes. Here’s Mathew Ryan’s save.

PENALTY

Jedinak gives the Socceroos the lead…for about four minutes.

RVP equalizes. He’s now tied with Own Goal and Thomas Mueller for the Golden Boot.

Holland makes Australia pay, Depay, to be precise. Immediately off the wasted chance, Holland surges across midfield. Memphis Depay hits a powerful, low shot that should’ve been saved, but Ryan was wrong-footed and couldn’t extend quickly enough. 3-2.
