Your Voice 2016

THIS IS MY FIGHT SONG

These incredibly famous celebrities will trade you a Mark Ruffalo nude scene for your vote

Celebrities! What do they know? Do they know things? Let’s find out! Celebrities are just like you and me except that they have a gazillion dollars and can’t buy anything at the grocery store without those damn paps taking their photos. They are also different because they get to do things like tell us that we might think “we aren’t important,” as a ploy to get us to vote!

This morning, Avengers director Joss Whedon released a video chock-full of famous people. Now, voting is important. I know because these VERY FAMOUS PEOPLE (and even some non-famous people!) say “important” a lot of times in the video. Here are some of them: Stanley Tucci, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Keegan-Michael Key, Robert Downey Jr., Leslie Odom Jr.

The video is a promotion for Whedon’s new super PAC, Save the Day, a digital production company that’s “dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act.” Or, you know, just your civic duty as a member of this country!

Of course, this isn’t the first Famous People Love the Election video of the year. There was this pro-Hillary video posted by Lena Dunham and featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and other female celebrities from February:

Some amazing women for an amazing woman. Tap link in bio to see the full video and tell us #ImWithHer

And the DNC gave us this truly excruciating lip sync “Fight Song” celebrity video, also for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

There’s a long history of celebrity political endorsements. Think Rock the Vote, the non-profit organized in 1990 to basically throw a bunch of celebrities on your TV to tell you to vote. Or think about this 2008 “Don’t Vote” video staring Jennifer Aniston.

These videos aren’t necessarily good, but they mean well. Voting is actually important, and using famous celebrities to encourage active political participation is definitely a good thing. But these videos are generally pretty monotonous—it’s hard to tell people to vote in a way that doesn’t feel totally repetitive. On the bright side, this new video is promising something no video has promised before: That Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie if we all vote!!!!!

The celebrities, though, are right. You should vote. If you have to, do it for the nude scene.
