It happens to the best of us—we write a tweet, or a Facebook post, and say, “Man, this is great, you gotta check this out!,” but inevitably forget to post the accompanying link. Darn! It even happens to leading Republicans in the Kansas House of Representatives, including people like Peggy Mast, who wrote on Facebook Thursday, “Great quote from Hitler in the video. Please listen to it closely. His words are profound! Let’s start using discernment.”
Unfortunately, The Wichita Eagle informs us, Peggy forgot to attach any video to her post.
Christie Kriegshauser, who happens to be the chief of staff for Kansas House Speaker Ray Merrick, commented on Mast’s Facebook post: “Sorry, I’m confused. What video and how is there a great quote from Hitler?” She told the Eagle that she didn’t understand why Mask might be imagining Adolf Hitler’s comments as “profound.”
The paper also reported that Mask followed up her ominous post with a link to a Christian blog about an hour later on her page citing activist Gianna Jessen’s congressional testimony about Planned Parenthood. Though the Eagle didn’t provide a link, it appears to be this post from JulieRoys.com. Here’s the relevant passage:
Planned Parenthood uses deception, the manipulation of language and slogans, such as “a woman’s right to choose,” to achieve their monetary aims.
I will illustrate how well they employ this technique with the following quote: “The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.” – Adolf Hitler
And here’s a video (Hitler quote is around the 4:37 mark):
An aide in Mast’s office told Fusion “the words were taken out of context,” and issued the following statement:
To clarify the intent of my previous post: Planned Parenthood has learned well the same tactics and deception used by Hitler regarding innocent lives. I was not in any way agreeing with Hitler’s words, rather, I was making a connection between the ideology he used and the arguments made by Planned Parenthood. I find both deplorable and heartbreaking.
