GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump has had harsh words for our nation’s congresspeople, promising to “drain the swamp” in Washington D.C.
Is filling the swamp with chocolate part of the drainage plan?
Earlier this week, the Trump International Hotel in D.C. posted this video of its pastry chef constructing a special dessert in honor of the hotel’s grand opening. The dessert consists of a white chocolate shell constructed in the shape of the U.S. Capitol building which is then melted by having hot chocolate sauce poured on to it.
The effect is rather … striking.
To be fair to the fine chefs at the Trump International, I don’t think they set out to make a political metaphor here. This sort of dessert was very trendy last winter and there is something oddly gratifying about watching a chocolate building sag into mush.
But if you read through the comments on the Instagram post, the people most excited about the video potentially being a campaign statement are Trump supporters themselves.
Maybe we’ll soon see “pouring chocolate over dessert” joining “knocking over teleprompters” as a Trump rally ritual.
