Donald Trump is no longer tweeting

As the country is at the very end of the presidential election cycle and about to choose a new Overlord in three days, a new development could throw a wrench into things: Donald Trump no longer has control over his Twitter account.

“How could it be true?” you ask. “His Twitter presence has remained the one constant throughout this year-plus long campaign, the only thing I know to be true anymore in this crazy world. And now he’s no longer tweeting?”

That’s right. He isn’t tweeting. That’s why, as of press time, he hasn’t tweeted a single thing about FBI director James Comey’s announcement that there’s nothing prosecutable in Hillary Clinton’s new emails. This tidbit was reported in a long New York Times account of Trump’s dark final days in his campaign:

Taking away Twitter turned out to be an essential move by his press team, which deprived him of a previously unfiltered channel for his aggressions.

On Thursday, as his plane idled on the tarmac in Miami, Mr. Trump spotted Air Force One outside his window. As he glowered at the larger plane, he told Ms. Hicks, his spokeswoman, to jot down a proposed tweet about President Obama, who was campaigning nearby for Mrs. Clinton.

“Why is he campaigning instead of creating jobs and fixing Obamacare?” Mr. Trump said. “Get back to work.” After some light editing — Ms. Hicks added “for the American people” at the end — she published it.

“No!” shout the masses. “This isn’t what we want. Polished, respectable Trump tweeting is like no Trump tweeting at all. What’s even the point anymore?”

Masses, I agree. It’s time to take a stand for what we believe in: That Donald Trump should be in full control of his Twitter account.
