John McCain Calls Shutdown a “Miserable Failure” and Wants Accountability

In an interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos on Thursday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said the government shutdown was a disaster.

“I said it couldn’t succeed from the start and it didn’t,” he said. “It was a miserable failure and we must never do it again.”

Ramos asked if the leadership has changed in the Republican Party, and whether freshman senators like Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) might be the new face of the party.

McCain responded by saying, “Those responsible for it will be held accountable by the American people and I don’t care what party they are in.”
