After being closed for almost three years, the Washington Monument will finally re-open on Monday.

The 555-foot stone structure suffered major damage during an August 2011 earthquake that struck the nation’s capital and other East Coast cities. The 5.8 magnitude quake caused cracks to open throughout the monument and damaged the elevator. The $15 million repair and restoration project will officially end today with a ceremony on the National Mall.
