Streaming media is essentially a technique that delivers content live over the internet. The information is sent directly to a device without the need to save it to the device’s hard drive. This form of media includes streaming music or streaming video, for example. It’s also often consumed via services like Spotify, Pandora, Netflix, Hulu, and through devices such as a smartphone, iPhone, iPad, tablet and game consoles, which allow for an on-demand experience.
Streaming media dates back to the 1990s, and became much more mainstream with the creation of YouTube, Google’s video-sharing site.
