Santa Muerte is best known as the patron saint of drug lords in Mexico, where experts say 5 million people worship her. But her influence is growing across the border with a more mainstream following in the United States.

The Catholic Church has condemned her, but those devoted to Santa Muerte say part of her appeal is her greater acceptance.
