Colbert to Take Over Letterman's 'Late Show'

CBS said today that Stephen Colbert will take over for David Letterman when he retires from ‘Late Night’ next year. In a statement, Colbert said, “Being a guest of David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my teeth.” When Colbert leaves Comedy Central, he’ll also leave behind the right-wing character he’s played for the last decade. He tells ABC News he’ll perform the ‘Late Show’ as himself.
