Colombian President Gets Candid With Us About García Márquez, Venezuela and Legalizing Drugs

Earlier this week Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos attended a tribute to Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Mexico City where he spoke with Fusion correspondent Manuel Rueda.

Santos spoke to Fusion about his relationship with the recently deceased writer, a man he described as “a close friend,” who was “very successful” with women, and taught him about the “carpentry” of writing.

Santos also answered our questions on the political crisis in Venezuela, the security situation in Colombia, where elections will be held in May and the prospects of legalizing drugs in Colombia.

The interview ended on a lighter note: Santos has pretty high hopes at the World Cup for Colombia’s national team.

President Santos is up for re-election next month.
