How 'Annie' bonded Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis for life
Fusion Live host Mariana Atencio spoke with U.S. Senator for New York, Kirsten Gillibrand, at the Center for American Progress Generation Progress Summit about the child migrant crisis. Democrats have been divided over how to handle the surge of unaccompanied children entering the U.S.
“These are kids. Some of them are babies,” said Sen. Gillibrand. “These children are coming from very dangerous communities where we’ve seen gang violence, where children are tortured. Any right-minded parent would seek a safe place for their child…Their claims should be adjudicated right away. They are fleeing unsafe environments. They should be given refugee status based on all the information we have to date.”
Sen. Gillibrand also spoke about encouraging more women to enter politics through the Off The Side Lines campaign.
“We all look at Washington and know it’s broken, but one of the exceptions is the women. We often work extremely well together across partisan lines,” said Sen. Gillibrand. “The more women’s voices that are heard, we will have better outcomes…we need more women holding Congress accountable.”
She also talked about a possible run by Hillary Clinton for president in 2016.
“I think she’ll be an amazing candidate. And so I’m going to do everything I can to make sure she’s elected.”
