Orange Is The New Black's Matt McGorry talks being a white dude on TV shows with diverse casts

If you follow Matt McGorry on Twitter, you know he’s an outspoken feminist. In addition to starring in the hit shows Orange is the New Black and How to Get Away With Murder, he’s been updating his social media accounts daily with posts promoting feminism and inclusion.

Shockingly, he says the response has been mostly positive and he’s learned not to sweat the haters:

“Anyone I’m isolating is an asshole,” he told Fusion, before suggesting those people go — *ahem* — enjoy themselves.

It’s telling that he’s used his platform to promote solidarity in feminism considering the backlash women have come to expect when speaking about such issues online.

One could argue that it is easier to remain neutral about these issues, but McGorry believes that media’s role is “critical” in shaping the way we see the world. After just three seasons of OITNB, he is witnessing the positive impact shows with diverse casts are having on Hollywood as a whole.

Cheers to more diversity! Also: Watch Matt McGorry play a game called ‘Legal or Illegal’ with us. 😍
