Jim Parsons would rather dance to Rihanna than J.Lo

How do you convince people to vote in midterm elections?

The video of Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) recommending Democrats use sexting to mobilize young voters made its way around our newsroom very quickly. We weren’t sure what was more impressive: Watching a congressman say “sexting,” or the fact that no one had ever come up with this idea before.

But really, if not sexting, what can we do to get our friends and families out the door for midterm elections? Fusion’s Alicia Menendez sat down with Rock the Vote’s Audrey Gelman and political analyst Zerlina Maxwell to discuss the alternatives.

Alicia had a confession: “I will be completely honest — I never got it together to register in the state of Florida,” she told Fusion. “So here I am, I have resources, I am educated, I have access to a mailbox… and I still didn’t get it together. So there’s still a big gap between reaching people on Instagram and Twitter and translating that into the actionable items you need to get them to vote.”
