Today In History: Lost And Found

Three-hundred-years-ago today, tragedy befell a fleet of 10 Spanish ships off the coast of Florida. A hurricane swept in, sinking every single ship and, with it, more than $400 million worth of gold and silver.

In a bit more fortunate set of circumstances, Eric Schmitt, a treasure hunter in Florida, stumbled upon the wreckage last month, digging up more than $1 million worth of buried treasure.

Speaking of good days: George Washington had a good day today’s in 1777, when he apparently convinced Marquis De Lafayette, a French aristocrat, to work for the United States Army for free. Capitalism at its finest!
